Col has been used by Tour de FrancePort de Pailhères (or Col de Pailhères) ia a Cat HC climb in Ariége between Mijanès (south-east) and Ax-les-Thermes(west). The summit is 2001 metres altitude. It was first used in the 2003 Tour de France, since then it has become one of the most popular climbs with cyclotourists. Port de Pailhères has replaced Col de Puymorens (busy road) as the most popular route for cyclists doing a coast to coast ride.

    Hello Paddy,

    Here is a picture of Col de Pailhères 3km to the top from Ax les Thermes. The road was totally clear at roughly 2.5km to the top.
